H is for Haiku - all about Heirlooms

The thought for the H post began back in February when I announced I would be doing the A to Z Blogging Challenge.  Mama Zen said, "That challenge sounds pretty cool! Think you could throw a haiku or two in there for Fireblossom?"   And so, with the help of my friend Kim from Talon, here are Haiku about three Heirlooms I find pleasure in.   The only Haiku you'll ever see here.  :)  Thank you to Kim for writing the Haiku for me - she was so inspired by my topic of Heirlooms that she wrote four of them!

Some of my late grandmother's "estate" jewelry.  Two Haiku for this one:

semi-precious stones
sparkle in their nesting box
warming memory

a child peruses
a filigree treasure trove
delightful dress-up

Heirloom tomatoes from Star Provisions in Atlanta.  Yummm...

Aunt Ruby’s gems glow
thick sliced on the cutting board
tasty red heirlooms

And finally - one of my late mother's teapots.  She had a collection.  This one from Staffordshire, England.

conversation flows
tinkle of spoons on saucers
an afternoon tea

This was fun - Day 8 of the Blogging from A to Z Challenge, featuring the letter H.  Three things that give me pleasure.

You did well on the Haiku. Not an easy task and to include the heirlooms was a double challenge.

Now I will check the "Email follow-up comments" and will know what you say back to me and what others think of your post via emails to me. Easy peasie:)

Jaycee -

Thank you!

The Elephant's Child -

Thank you for coming by - I know you have your hands full right now, but I missed you when you were gone.

Granny Annie -

I think I didn't make it clear enough that Kim wrote the Haiku for me, so I went back and updated my comment at the top. I asked Kim in an email if she would write a Haiku for me and she said, "Sure - just give me a topic." I walked around my house looking for H inspiration and hit upon Heirlooms, because I have so much of my grandmother's sparkly jewelry. And then jokingly told her that I also thought of Heirloom Tomatoes and then there were my Heirloom teapots. She said she felt inspired to give me four. I owe her big!

Oh and the "dress up" Haiku came about when I mentioned that when my grandmother died, my mom was planning to let the grandchildren play dress up with that jewelry. Oh no - it went home with me and I wear it. :) Every time there's a fancy event (not that often) I wear one of those brooches with the matching earrings.

Since I know you come back to check comments - this one is especially detailed. :)

I'm glad you like the post - I hope you see the update that Kim wrote the Haiku. Love your comment that you were delighted and surprised.

Joanne -

Thank you - this one was fun to put together.

Very nice! I used to love going through my great-grandmother's trunks of costume stuff. I wonder where all of that went. Now I want to go eat an heirloom tomato.

Enjoyed this post. I love haiku. I think it is fun to challenge myself to sum things up within the 3 line structure. Really makes you boils things down to the heart.

Hi Lynn .. love the connections you've made here and included the Heirloom tomatoes .. Haiku, poetry and I don't seem to run together .. occasionally - but love reading these and with the photos attached to each one. Your Staffordshire teapot is very pretty - and what a lovely memory of your mother ..

Great that Talon was able to write the Haikus for you .. she is talented ..

I remember one dress I used to like to play dress up in that belonged to my grandmother - she made it to wear to a picnic, but didn't have time to work the buttonholes and so she pinned it. She never did make the buttonholes. Like you - I wonder what happened to it.

glitterandrainbows -

I know - I agree.

Snaggle -

We used to play tea party when we were little - she always played with us.

Hilary -

She is awesomely talented! I don't have a poetic bone in my body, but respect those who do greatly.
