Spring has sprung, awakening and St. Patty's Day

- The pollen count in Atlanta was 3971 - considered in the extremely high range - and higher than any count in any month in 2011.  Spring has come in with a vengeance.  :)  Those little wormy looking things that you can see in the photo above exploded yesterday with the yellow dust.  What makes this a good thing?  It's lovely to see all the green.  My mama used to say this little poem, "Spring has sprung, the grass has ris', I wonder where the flowers is?"

- My potted Hosta emerges from its winter sleep.

- A St. Patrick's Day dinner of corned beef and cabbage, carrots and potatoes.  The hosts and the table were wearing green and there was a little Chieftans music playing in the background.

Sounds like a great St. Paddy's dinner--but the pollen count sounds horrible!

I made corned beef and cabbage, too. I've been drinking green juice and enjoying the springing of spring. and, fingers crossed, the pollen won't bother me too much. :)

Yikes on the pollen count! Though it's lovely to see some green. I can't wait until the trees leaf out.

Sounds like a perfect St. Patty's Day feast, Lynn!

Sandie -

It's all that pine pollen. Dreadful stuff.

Jannie -

Apparently it's due to the extra warm start we have gotten this year down south.

No - since I am not Irish I don't usually wear green, but am aware there is a danger of being pinched. :)

All good things!

Joe -

Totally lovely.

I know - the leaving of the trees is lovely, isn't it?

My mama's spring poem was v similar.

Spring has sprung,
The grass has riz,
I wonder where them boidy's is
The boid is on the wing
How absurd
The wing is on the boid.

I live in what is reputedly the pollen capital of Oz, so my sympathies are with all who are affected.

The Elephant's Child -

I love that! So our mom's both had similar poems so many miles apart.

Yes - the pollen takes on a life of its own, doesn't it? I just peeked outside and there are footprints in the yellow layer on the sidewalk.

Happy Spring Lynn!
Look at all that green! Wow about that high count- yikes! Keep the tylenol handy... I haven't even looked for signs of life on the deck yet- I wonder what the Phlox is doing.
You even got a good traditional holiday meal- with Irish tunes. I made some corned beef with cabbage last week because I knew I had to work on the holiday again.
I like your Mom's cute poem

I don't think I could deal with that much pollen! Oy. Good luck!

You're not kidding about Spring and the pollen count. I clean my car and it turns green all over again in a matter of days AND that's in the garage (well, with the door open).

Even when I sit outside my eyes get sticky from the pollen, but I'm determined to enjoy the warm days.

Don't you love when you see the first green peek out of the dirt? I do.

Your St. Patrick's Day party sounded like lots of fun. We went out and listened to music. I actually like Irish music.

Snaggle -

I have posted that little poem before, I think. It's a little tribute to her really - she loved the spring.

Joanne -

Oy is right! It's over 9000 today. Madness.

Sara -

Make it stop! There was pollen on the dark blue car I was driving in Thomasville at the beginning of February - so it hasn't let up for you yet???

Yes - I do love seeing the plants come back. Lovely.

I'm not good at describing plants, but they look a little like peace lilies. They are very hardy and grow well in the shade. They die off in the winter and come right back in the spring. Here's a link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hosta

I had Thai food for St. Patrick's Day...kind of hard to do corned beef when you are a vegetarian ;) Corned tofu perhaps?

Riot Kitty -

I'm thinking Thai food sounds good on any day! Anything with Panang sauce. Yum.
